Panda and Mountains

Sichuan has been historically known as the "Heaven of Abundance". With a history of over 2,400 years its capital,  Chengdu, is home to many amazing historical sites and archaeological wonders. The local cuisine is world renowned for its delicious spiciness and the pace of life here is slow, many locals like to simply spend the afternoon drinking tea and playing cards in the open air tea houses.  The city of Chengdu is home to China's living treasures, the Giant Panda. Here you will have the chance to visit the Panda Research & Breeding Center where significant strides have been made toward the conservation of the ever-endangered Giant Panda species since its inception in 1987. As you stroll through its beautiful surroundings, you will find these amazing creatures never cease to delight and charm.

Being inscribed in the list of 'World Natural and Cultural Heritage' by UNESCO in 1997, the Leshan Giant Buddha, the largest stone sculpture of Buddha in the world, is carved out of a cliff face. The Leshan Giant Buddha sits impassively against the mountain, hands on his knees and looking across the river with heavy-lidded eyes. You will enjoy the whole picture from different sides when you take a cruise across the river.

Mt. Emei is one of the four sacred Buddhist Mountains of China. Being looked from far, the undulating mountain range is like girl's eyebrows. That's why it was so named (Emei literally means 'girl's eyebrows' in Chinese). The rocks and vegetation seem arranged in infinite layers; they look irresistibly powerful due to the immense vastness in mass and dimension. It is reputed as 'the great beauty of the world'. There are 30 temples in this scenic area. You will take a cable car to the most famous one – Wannian Temple with its majestic views.
