China Discovery

This tour includes all of the touring featured in the "China Highlights," plus a cruise on the Yangtze River. Begin with three nights in Beijing, where you will tour the capital city's many charms, including the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, the Temple of Heaven, and take a trip to the Great Wall, one of the most impressive man-made monuments in the world.  Next you take a 4-night Yangtze expedition which will offer an unforgettable experience to the majestic natural wonders of The Yangtze, China's longest river and the third longest waterway in the world.

This ever-popular river cruise invites you on board one of the 5 star rated Victoria Cruises vessels which offer all the comforts and facilities of a floating hotel. A few of the cruise's highlights include the legendary Three Gorges, a motorboat ride on the Daning River through the towering Three Small Gorges, shore excursions to The Three Gorges Dam, site of the largest reservoir in the world. All meals and cultural activities are included on board. On disembarkation in Chongqing, continue to the ancient capital city of Xian to see the awe-inspiring Terracotta Warrior Army. Then next, fly to Guilin to explore the Reed Flute Cave, cruising along the Li River, and the incredibly scenic Yangshuo. From Guilin, the tour will conclude with a visit to Hong Kong or Shanghai, China's two most dynamic cities.

When to go

China has a great diversity of climates. From bitterly cold winters to dry hot summers in the North and Semi-tropical summers and mild winters in the South. March to May and September to early November are the best times to visit China.

 

Flying time

London to Beijing is approximately 10 hours whilst to Shanghai and Hong Kong approximately 12 hours with direct flights operated by British Airways, Air China, Virgin Atlantic and Cathay Pacific Airways


Time difference

GMT+8. Despite the vast size of the country, Beijing time is standard throughout China.
