Magic of Mexico - Itinerary
Day 1: London/Mexico City
Take British Airways direct flight for Mexico City – “City of Palaces”. Arrive in the evening. Meet and transfer to 3* Hotel Regente.
Day 2: Mexico City
The tour starts in the historical center of Mexico City, visit “El Zocalo”, the Cathedral, National Palace and the Palace of Fine Arts. Drive along the Reforma Avenue to Chapultepec Park, to the residential area of Las Lomas de Chapultepec to get a complete impression of the biggest city in the world. Afterwards drive to the Northern part of the City to the famous Pyramids of Teotihuacan. Guided tour and also free time to climb the pyramids at your own risk! (B)
Day 3: Xochimilco (Floating Gardens)
A Typical Mexican Sunday, taking a boat ride through the canals on a typical decorated “Trajinera” surrounded by a floating world of mariachi and marimba music. On the way back to the hotel, visit of the University City, built on a petrified sea of lava. (B)
Day 4: Mexico City/Puebla/Oaxaca
Transfer to colonial city of Puebla which features more than 70 churches and 1000 colonial buildings in historical center. Visit the Zocalco, the monumental Cathedral and Rosary Chapel. Continue to Oaxaca, another colonial jewel of Mexico. Late afternoon visit of Oaxaca including baroque church Santo Domingo and it monastery featuring regional museum. Accommodation and overnight at Hotel Aitana. (B)
Day 5: Oaxaca
Visit of Oaxaca and surroundings. Short drive to Monte Alban built on a flattened hilltop overlooking the Oaxaca valley was for 2000 years the center of the Zapotecan and Mixtecan cultures. Continue to Mitla and visit of “The City of the Dead” with its unique mosaics. Enjoy the 2000 year old cypress tree of Tule, one of the largest on earth! Return to Oaxcaca. (B)
Day 6: Oaxaca/Veracruz
Departure to the Port City of Veracruz at Gulf of Mexico where we arrive by midday. Afternoon visit of Fort San Juan de Ulua. Antiago, El Faro, Zocalo and the Portals. At night you can join folklore dances on the Zocalo. Accommodation and overnight at Hotel Hostal de Cortes (B)
Day 7: Veracruz/Canon Del Sumidero/San Cristobal
Transfer through subtropical landscape from the Golf of Mexico to the highlands of Chiapas. By noon arrival in Cahuare where boat ride into the impressive Sumidero Canyon begins. Afternoon drive to San Cristobal de las Casas. Accommodation and overnight at Hotel Mansion De Los Angeles. (B)
Day 8: San Cristobal De Las Casas/Agua Azul/Palenque
Visit of San Cristobal de las Casas: colonial and beautiful city with narrow streets, shady plazas. Visit the Indian market, the Temple of Santo Domingo and the amber museum. Afternoon visit of the Tzotzil Towns of San Juan Chamula and Zinacantan. Evening free to enjoy the city. (B)
Day 9: San Cristobal De Las Casas/Agua Azul/Palenque
Transfer to lowland of Chiapas, to Palenque. En route visit of Mexicos most beautiful waterfalls Agua Azul and the impressive falls Misol-Ha. Continue to Palenque. Accommodation and overnight at Hotel Plaza Palenque.(B)
Day 10: Palenque/Campeche
Visit of the magical archaeological zone of Palenque built admidst lush tropical forest. Visit famous Temple of Inscriptions with the tomb of ruler Pakal. Afternoon transfer to Campeche on the Golf of Mexico. Accommodation and overnight at Hotel Baluartes. (B)
Day 11: Campeche/Uxmal/Merida
City tour Campeche including its typical Baluartes (Fortifications). Continue to Uxmal, once important Mayan trading place. Visit the Pyramid of the Magician, Nunnery, Governors Palace. Afternoon transfer to Merida, state capital of Yucatan. Enjoy the lively colonial city in a walking tour around the Zocalo. Accommodation and overnight at Hotel Del Gobernador. (B)
Day 12: Merida/Chichen Itza/Cancun
Departure from Merida to Chichen Itza. Visit of the biggest and most visited Mayan Site Chichen Itza with its famous Kukulkan pyramid, Temple of the Warriors, Ball Court and Observatory. Continue to Cancun and overnight at 4* Hacienda Radisson Cancun. (B)
Day 13: Cancun/London
Transfer to the Cancun International Airport on time to board the flight back home by British Airways. (B)
Day 14: London
Arrive in Heathrow in the afternoon
