Tibet by Rail- Itinerary

Day 1: Xining

Arrive at Xining and transfer to the local hotel.

Day 2: Xining

Full day tour to the Kanbula National Forest Park, a beautiful resort and also a geographical testimony to the evolvement of the Tibetan Plateau. (B,L)

Day 3: Xining/Qinghai Lake/Lhasa

We travel by car to the Qinghai Lake, the largest saltwater lake in China which embeds itself amid high mountains and plains. After the tour, transfer for an overnight train to Lhasa. The “Roof of the World” railway runs across wide valleys, ever-shifting permafrost and some of the highest mountain passes in the world to the Tibetan capital – Lhasa. (B,L)

Day 4: Lhasa

Arrive into Lhasa in the evening, transfer to local hotel. As the city is situated at an altitude of approximately 12,000ft, it is essential to rest and acclimatize and we recommend that you only undertake gentle activities.

Day 5: Lhasa

Our tour of Lhasa starts with the holiest shrine, the 13th century Jokhang Temple and the bustling Barkhor Market. We will also visit the Potala Palace, home to the Dalai Lamas since the 17th century and widely regarded to be one of the architectural wonders of the world. (B,L)

Day 6: Lhasa/Shigatse

Transfer to the city of Shigatse (fertile land) by car via the holy lake. Overnight at Shigatse hotel. (B,L)

Day 7: Shigatse/Lhasa

Shigatse is the 2nd largest city in Tibet. Our tour includes the Tashilhunpo (mount of eternal blessing) Monastery and local market. Built in 1447 in red and white, the monastery houses many rare and valuable artifacts including a giant stature of the Buddha which stands at 86ft tall and is cast entirely in bronze. After the visit, we travel back to Lhasa by car. Overnight in local hotel in Lhasa. (B,L)

Day 8: Lhasa

Trasnfer for your onward flight (B)
